What makes an acupressure massage different from an ordinary massage?
Chinese acupressure massage is derived from the ancient medicinal art of acupuncture. The difference between acupuncture and acupressure is that instead of inserting needles, an acupressure massage therapist applies pressure. The practitioner applies pressure in a circular motion or they may knead the muscles or use percussion. Aside from targeting the acupuncture meridians, an acupressure massage practitioner may also use traditional remedial massage techniques to relieve muscle stiffness and disperse built up toxins in the body.
Acupuncture massage is not designed to treat specific illnesses. It is a holistic treatment designed to help enhance your body’s ability to heal itself. Some common complaints many people have found relief from include:
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Back Pain
- Muscle Soreness
You can choose anything from a short (approximately 20 minutes), relaxing head and neck treatment to a full body acupressure massage that may last for over an hour. Afterwards, you will probably be advised to drink plenty of water, in order to flush the released toxins out of the body.
Most people come away feeling totally relaxed and refreshed and often experience relief from the issues that led them to seek acupressure massage therapy.
